Hotopp Associates - Principal Creative Director- January 2017 – Present
As Principal Creative Director I am part of the Senior Management Team which makes decisions on company growth, strategic development and corporate goals. I also lead the Seattle Design Studio. In this role I grew the design, team hiring designers with a wide of architectural knowledge including: visualization experts, interior designers, lighting designers and BIM management specialists. My role was to grow the team and the individuals while providing a work environment which promoted collaboration. Lastly, in my role I have been driving sales and revenue through my industry relationships I have built over the past 25+ years allowing Hotopp to reach markets/clients previously untapped. Our projects ranged from $100M - $500k, and our client base grew to include Universal Creative, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi and City Neon.
Dillon Works - Director of Design - January 2013 – December 2016
Dillon Works is a custom design and fabrication shop that specializes in one-of-a-kind environmental experiences. As the Director of Design, I was responsible for leading a team of designers and fabricators through complex problem solving, while knowing each solution is customized to the client's unique set of challenges. My contributions were vast, and include taking projects through concepting, design development, construction documentation as well as overseeing of the fabrication process including delivery and installation. My role also included being a valuable contributor with the internal sales and marketing team to develop and land new business opportunities. In order to bring in more clients that specialized in early child development, I became the authority on Play Safety. I worked with a third party consultant to ensure our designs not only met the safety codes but exceeded them. I build trust in client relationships, by not over promising on design and budget expectations. Whether it’s M&M’s or the Chapel Community Church, my approach is collaboration.
Monkey-Do Productions Inc. - Owner - April 1998 - December 2012
I started Monkey-Do Productions with the goal of developing Iconic attractions and brand experiences for a wide range of clients. With my expansive contact list, I built a client base of 50+ and developed a 5-10 person design and custom fabrication team that focused on creating Iconic Experiences from design to fabrication and installation. I took on the liability of owning a business, managing work flow, pursuing new business developments, contracts, negotiations, warranty claims and HR management. I created detailed estimates and proposals, which defined the scope of work for all new business projects from Disney, Warner Brothers, Anheuser Busch, SeaWorld/Busch Gardens, local Marketing Agencies to local Churches.
Busch Entertainment Corporation - Project Manager/ Industrial Designer - March 2003 – September 2005
As an Industrial Designer in the Creative Development Group, I worked with corporate executives and design consultants to deliver new attractions and renovation of existing retail, culinary and show experiences for all Anheuser-Busch theme parks. I developed master plans, estimated capacities, generated concept designs, created storyboards, and produced design intent packages for park expansions. In order to create experiential consistency throughout three SeaWorld parks, I developed the master realm plan, which was adopted by corporate, the parks, the design consultants and the architects.
Zipatoni - Art Director of Environmental/3-D Design - October 2001 – March 2003
I was part of a unique team called ZED. Zipatoni Experiential Design. My contributions to this team included designing airport bars and special venues within sports arenas for Bacardi, Dewar’s and Miller Lite, creating unique brand touch points within each facility. Creating bid packages for promotional vehicles, event spaces, and custom interactive kiosks for Miller Lite, Miller High Life, MGD and Grey Goose. I also designed and directed the interior refresh of spaces at eBay, Energizer lobby, CARFAX, Subway, Kinko's and Quizno’s stores.
PGAV Architects - Attraction Designer - July 1993 – April 1998
I was brought on at PGAV to create sculptural models of rockwork formations used in multiple animal exhibits for SeaWorld; including killer whale, dolphin, polar bear, sea lions and stingrays. I also designed multiple roller coaster vehicles including, Journey to Atlantis, Gwazi and Montu located in SeaWorld and Busch Gardens. All of the design was done through drawing and CAD, which didn’t tell the full picture. I established a model shop within the firm that allowed me to build prototypes of the attractions that I was designing. This included special effects for a 4D Theater, including water and air cannons, vibrating seat buzzer and audio effects. These models would be included in the design package to support the construction documents.
